Benchmark Indian stock indices like Bombay Stock Exchange's SENSEX and National Stock Exchange's NIFTY nosedived today as Reserve Bank of India increased basic lending rate by 0.5 percent, much more then expected. This is 11 repo rate hike in 1 year by RBI but still inflation is much more then comfort level.
National Stock Exchange's broader index Nifty closed at 5574.85, down 105.45 points. The index touched a high of 5702.25 in daytrade today. Market breadth was negative on the NSE with 1971 losers against 1095 gainers.
The 30 component Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex closed down by 353.07 points at 18518.22 which is nearly 2 percent. The large-cap index touched intraday low of 18481.63 during intraday trading today.
All the sectoral indices also closed in red today with BSE Midcap Index closing down by 1.01 percent and BSE Smallcap Index moving down by 0.80 percent today.

Major losers of NSE's NIFTY were as follows: Reliance Communications (-6.13%),IDFC (-6.06%),BHEL (-4.55%), M&M (-4.45%) and DLF (-4.35%).
